Raymond Edward Tate

Graveside inurnment services for Raymond Edward Tate, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Tate died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.He was born May 1, 1921, in Lawrence, the son of Charles Richard and Mattie May Coda Tate. He attended school in Lawrence and Midland. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence and Douglas County.Mr. Tate served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and attained the rank of corporal. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon for World War II. He was an ice cream maker for Fritzel Jayhawk Creamery and a milkman for Chamney Dairy. He later worked for the Lawrence school district as a supply coordinator. He attended Free Methodist Church.He married Marjorie J. Goepfert on June 6, 1942, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Debra Tate Utech, Laguna, N.M.; and a sister, Goldie Ray, Lawrence.A daughter, Norma Jean Tate, died in 1962.The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
