Celia Miller

A celebration of life for Celia Miller, 80, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at her home.She was born July 25, 1925, in Hopkins, Mo., the daughter of Lester and Edna Shell. She lived in Omaha, Neb., and later moved to Lawrence, where she graduated in 1942 from Liberty Memorial High School. She attended Kansas University.Mrs. Miller was a lifelong bookkeeper who finished her career at KU’s continuing education department.She was active in First Baptist Church choirs and Lawrence Cooperative Nursery School, and served as a den mother for Cub Scouts. She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 50 years, including service as day camp director at Hidden Valley Girl Scout Camp and director at Camp Daisy Hindman. She led Troop 673/675, the only mounted Girl Scout troop in eastern Kansas, for more than 32 years.Survivors include her husband, Galen, of the home; four children, Larry Miller, Gayle Hayes, Tom Miller and Joy Underberg, all of Lawrence; two sisters, Cindy Fugate, Colorado, and Silver Worley, Washington; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Hidden Valley Girl Scout Camp, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
