Richard Langan 1935 - 2006 De Soto
Services for Richard Langan, 71, De Soto, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery.Mr. Langan died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Olathe Medical Center.He was born April 5, 1935, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Cecil and Ollie Langan. He was a lifetime resident of De Soto.Mr. Langan worked at Delco Remy battery plant for 34 years and retired in 1996. He was a past president of the Jaycees club, started the ambulance service and was fire chief, all in De Soto. He was a municipal court judge in De Soto and Linwood. He also helped start the first peewee football team in De Soto and was honored with the De Soto citizenship award in 1970.He married June E. Lewis on Nov. 25, 1954. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Debbie Thomas, De Soto, and Cindy Adkins, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Claude Cowan, Kansas City, Kan., and Warner Langan, Kingfisher, Okla.; two sisters, Jerry Abel, Eudora, and Pat Riley, Sedalia, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday before the services at the chapel.The family suggests memorials to De Soto Fire and Rescue, sent in care of the chapel, P.O. Box 101, De Soto 66018.
