Ruth E. Allen 1917 - 2006 Lawrence
Services for Ruth E. Allen, 88, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home in Leavenworth. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.Mrs. Allen died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Atchison, the daughter of Frank M. and Pauline Griffin Davis.She was raised and attended school in Atchison and lived in several Kansas towns before moving to Leavenworth in the mid-1950s. She moved to Lawrence six months ago to be with family.She worked as a cashier for 23 years before retiring in 1978. She also was co-owner of Allen's Book Shop with her husband.She was a member of First Christian Church of Leavenworth, Retail Clerks International Union and AARP.She married Kenneth Y. Allen on Dec. 5, 1937, in Atchison. He died on Dec. 16, 1983.Survivors include a son, Kenneth R. Allen Sr., Lawrence; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Cottonwood Inc., sent in care of the funeral home, 707 S. Sixth St., Leavenworth 66048.
