Alexander L. Boyle Jr. 1926 - 2006 Lawrence
Mass of Christian burial for Alexander L. Boyle Jr., 80, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Student Center. Private inurnment will be in Pioneer Cemetery. Mr. Boyle died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.He was born Feb. 19, 1926, in Washington, N.J., the son of Alexander Leo and Helen Claire Smith Boyle. He graduated from high school in Martinsburg, W.Va. He received a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Syracuse University and a master's degree in fine arts from Kansas University. Mr. Boyle served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was an art designer in New York City studios and worked as a design consultant for Hallmark Cards and Cook Paint and Varnish. He joined the design department at Kansas University in 1953 and retired in 1992. He also taught at Escuela of Bellas Artes at the University of Costa Rica and at Rockhurst College.He was a member of St. Lawrence Student Catholic Center, Lawrence Art Guild, Kansas Watercolor Society and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14.He married Marion Brown on June 26, 1948, in Syracuse, N.Y. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Sharon Boyle, Langley, Wash., Susan Boyle, Kansas City, Mo., Eileen Wirth, Currituck, N.C., and Caroline Wilten, Denver; two sons, Christopher, Los Angeles, and Kevin, Lowell, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., student scholarships at the St. Lawrence Catholic Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
