Services for Bernard R. Kennedy Sr., 82, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.Mr. Kennedy died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born July 30, 1923, in Newman, the son of John R. and Hattie M. Roper Kennedy. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1941 and was a longtime resident of Lawrence.Mr. Kennedy served in the U.S. Army in the Europe during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years and retired in 1983.He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 842 and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence.He married Bernice Goff on July 5, 1942, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Bernard Jr., Lawrence, and Rory G., Baldwin; a daughter, Carolyn S. Kirby, Lawrence; two sisters, Betty Shuler, Lake Jackson, Texas, and Gay Rofkahr, McLouth; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour Saturday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Palliative Care Consult Team at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Kennedy
