Laveeta Morgan Washburn 1912 - 2006
Services for Laveeta Morgan Washburn, 93, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Babcock Place in Lawrence. Inurnment will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.Mrs. Washburn died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born March 5, 1912, in Council Valley, Okla., the daughter of Lewis D. and Lura Charlotte Cornett Morgan. She attended school in Council Valley. She lived in Kansas City, Kan., Linwood, Arkansas and again in Kansas City, Kan., before she moved to Lawrence in 1973.Mrs. Washburn and her husband owned and operated the Iowana Resort in Arkansas. She also had been matron at the Wyandotte County Jail.She married Roland Edward Washburn in 1932 in El Dorado. He died in 1988.A son, John Washburn, also died earlier.Survivors include a son, Daniel Washburn, rural Lawrence; a daughter, Bonnie Rosenthal, Rancho Mirage, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.E-mail condolences may be sent to <a href="mailto:danielwashburn@hotmail.com">danielwashburn@hotmail.com</a>.
