Emmett E. Stovall, Sr.

Services for Emmett E. “Gene” Stovall Sr., 76, Leavenworth, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Independent Baptist Church in Leavenworth. Burial with full military honors will follow in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.Mr. Stovall died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Medicalodge of Leavenworth.He was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Decatur, Ala., the son of Wesley M. and Annie Grace Crawford Stovall.Mr. Stovall served in the U.S. Army for more than 21 years and retired as a staff sergeant in 1970. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He worked for the city of Leavenworth Water Pollution Control Department as a wastewater plant operator for more than 20 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Platte City, Mo.Survivors include his wife, Claudia, of the home; three sons, John D., Leavenworth, Emmett E. Jr., Lawrence, and Al D., Emporia; six daughters, Danna Fay Taylor, Kansas City, Kan., Sharlene Rochester, Garland, Texas, Carol Yvette Stovall, Dallas, Carolyn Yvonne Staten, Shreveport, La., Gracie Ann Stovall, Pensacola, Fla., and Peggy Lee Malone, Atlanta; a brother, Tommie Lee Madden, Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Mary Ann Stovall, Athens, Ala.; 32 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.Three sons, Daniel R., Victor F. and Grayson L., died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home in Leavenworth.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 707 S.
