Roland G. Anderson

A memorial gathering for Roland G. “R.G.” Anderson, 75, Lawrence, will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. He donated his body to Kansas University Medical Center for research.Mr. Anderson died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at his home.He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Ottawa, the son of Arthur and Zona Porter Anderson.He received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Ottawa University and a Master of Science in chemistry from Kansas University. He completed advanced graduate courses through the University of Texas.Mr. Anderson worked as an industrial chemist. He later began a teaching career at De Soto High School, and taught in Okinawa, Libya, Samoa and California. He finished his career at Lawrence High School, where for 24 years he taught chemistry, astronomy and world history and was chairman of the science department for several years. He retired in 1988.He was active in home Christian ministry and youth support groups.Survivors include two adopted sons, Larry Bocquin, Topeka, and Brian Wagner, Mabelvale, Ark.; and a sister, Vivian Huyett, Massillon, Ohio.The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Jonell Williams Scholarship/Lawrence Schools Foundation, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Anderson.
