Harry Colburn 1911 - 2006
Services for Harry "Lyle" Colburn, 94, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Colburn died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Stockton, the son of Harry and Ester Hockett Colburn. He graduated from Webster High School in what is now Webster Lake. Mr. Colburn worked for Arnold's Market, Hercules Powder Co., Colburn Brothers Market and the Lawrence school district for 35 years.He was a member of North Lawrence Christian Church for 65 years, where he served on the church board, was Sunday school superintendent and choir director, and helped with other church programs. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 6.He married Eva Lee on Aug. 15, 1934. She died Aug. 25, 1996.A daughter, Lyla M. Simpson, died in 1978, and two grandchildren also died earlier.Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Merritt, Lawrence; a brother, George Colburn, Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
