Esther E. Evans Slaven 1919 - 2006 Ottawa

Ottawa - Funeral services for Esther E. Evans Slaven, 87, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery in Peoria.Mrs. Slaven died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at her home.She was born June 12, 1919, in Peoria, the daughter of Zack K. and Nora Maude Ferris Evans. She grew up in Peoria and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1937. She received a nursing degree from the University of Kansas Nursing School in Kansas City, Kan., in 1946.Mrs. Slaven worked as a nurse for more than 35 years. She worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Manhattan and at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa for more than 24 years before she retired in 1981. She continued to work at Ransom Memorial when needed. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years. She was also a member of ABW and Extension Homemakers Units.She married John F. Slaven on June 8, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Teresa Meals, Kansas City, Mo., Rebecca Maddern, Overland Park, and Nancy Taylor, Ottawa; two sisters, Mary Sue Finch, Ottawa, and Eleanor Harrell, Ottawa; a brother, Glenn Evans, Paola; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice Care or Westminster Presbyterian Church, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
