Al Conyers

Services for Al Conyers, 60, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Conyers died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Select Special Hospital in Topeka.He was born Feb. 18, 1946, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Eugene Guy and Marie Musgrove Conyers. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Emporia State University and a Master of Science degree in business administration from Kansas University.Mr. Conyers served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for the state of Kansas in the KC metro-Lawrence office of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. He formerly worked as a school teacher in Olathe and a school administrator in Paola. He was also a district manager for Kansas City Power & Light. He was a member of Rotary and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14.He married Carladyne Knox on Nov. 12, 1966, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his mother, Marie Conyers, Salina; two daughters, Olivia Folks, Iola, and Christina Conyers, Lenexa; a sister, Barbara Fetter, Salina; and two grandsons.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri or the American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Conyers.
