Edward “Ed” Phelon

Melvern – A celebration of life for Edward “Ed” Phelon, 91, Melvern, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery north of Lyndon.Mr. Phelon died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Osage Nursing Center in Osage City.He was born Feb. 7, 1915, near Scranton, the son of Arthur “Ray” and Bertha Ellis Phelon. He moved from north of Lyndon to west of Melvern, where he lived from 1943 to 2003.Mr. Phelon was a lifelong farmer and stockman. He was a member of Melvern United Methodist Church and the Sunflower Steppers Square Dancers.He married Isabel Lizer on Aug. 15, 1954, in Harris. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Raylen, Melvern; two daughters, Janett Phelon, Lawrence, and Linda Carson, Osage City; and nine grandchildren.A daughter, Kay Haskins, died June 3, 2000.Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon, where the family will receive them from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to the church or Melvern Community Center, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
