Carol Jean Knupp 1942 - 2006 De Soto
Services for Carol Jean Knupp, 63, De Soto, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mrs. Knupp died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at her home.She was born April 5, 1942, in Great Bend, the daughter of Roy and Olinda Knop Lathrop. She graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1960. She received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Kansas University in 1964.Mrs. Knupp worked at the Great Bend Tribune as a reporter and education editor. She became editor of the Ellinwood Leader in 1975, when she and her husband purchased the newspaper. She served on the Ellinwood school board for many years and also served a term as board president. She retired in 1983 and became a homemaker and freelance writer. She won the K.N.E.A. Golden Quill Award in 1971.She married Larry Knupp on Sept. 1, 1963, in Ellinwood. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Justin Knupp, Lawrence; a brother, Arlyn Lathrop, Great Bend; and two grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Habitat for Humanity, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
