Maurice James Cooper Sr.

Services for Maurice James Cooper Sr., 68, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Second Christian Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Cooper died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at a Topeka hospital.He was born May 7, 1937, in Lawrence, the son of Fred Sr. and Lurue Suggs-Cooper. He attended Lawrence public schools. He had lived in Topeka for 45 years.Mr. Cooper worked as a mill operator for Rodney Milling Co. He was a member of Second Christian Church in Lawrence and Christian Airs Gospel Quartet.Survivors include two sons, Maurice “Petey” Cooper Jr. and Ronnie Gene Coleman Sr., both of Topeka; five daughters, Kathleen Coleman, Linda Turnage, Claudia Payne, Alvi Selby and Marsha Cooper, all of Topeka; two foster sons, James Gurden and Donell Jackson, both of Topeka; two brothers, Fred Jr. and Gary, both of Lawrence; a sister, Donna Morrison, Lawrence; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel in Topeka, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
