Warren Roscoe Southard 1925 - 2006 Wichita

Services for Warren Roscoe Southard, 80, Wichita, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at College Hill United Methodist Church in Wichita.Mr. Southard died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at his home.He was born July 14, 1925, in Stockton. He moved to Wichita in 1942 and graduated from East High School in 1943.Mr. Southard joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in its V-5 program. He graduated from Wichita State University, where he was captain of the track team, in 1948, and earned a law degree with honors from Washburn University in 1951. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity.He was a practicing attorney in Kansas for 55 years. He was a life member of the Wichita Bar Assn., Kansas Bar Assn. and American Bar Assn. and served as chairman of Wichita Bar Assn. ethics committee for 10 years. He was a member of the State Disciplinary Committee for eight years and the Board of Governors. He received the first Howard C. Cline Award for Distinguished Service in the Wichita Bar Assn. and was a fellow with the Kansas Bar Assn.Mr. Southard was a member of Bestor G. Brown and Albert Pike Masonic Lodges, Wichita Scottish Rite Consistory, Midian Shrine, Jesters Organization and Midian Pipes and Drums. He was a longtime member of College Hill United Methodist Church.He married Claudine "Toodie" Yungmeyer in 1950. She survives, of the home.Survivors include two sons, Jeff, Lawrence, and Steve, St. Joseph, Mo.; a daughter, Jan Anderson, Winfield; a brother, John, Orlando, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Plane of Mercy, Midian Shrine or the church, sent in care of Old Mission Mortuary, 3424 E. 21st, Wichita 67208.
