Milton “Doug” Douglas Durbin

Ottawa – Services for Milton Douglas “Doug” Durbin, 55, Ottawa, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa. He donated his body to science.Mr. Durbin died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.He was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Oklahoma City, the son of Marvin D. and Wanda Lee Williams Durbin. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1968. He attended Ottawa University and Kansas University. He received E.M.T. Certification from Neosho County Community College and certification from the American Red Cross to be a first aid instructor.Mr. Durbin served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 25, 1974, to Feb. 28, 1979, during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of E-5. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 14 years. He was a captain of security for Wacken Hut in Kansas City, Mo., where he taught safety classes and retired in 2003. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and played in the New Song Choir. He was a lifelong musician and played in several bands. He was also a published writer.He married Florine Waterbury on June 13, 1987, in Ottawa. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his mother, Ottawa; a sister, Cindy Armstrong, Ottawa; and many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of Ottawa.The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans Assn., sent in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
