Don Elton Randel

Services for Don Elton Randel, 78, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Randel died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Eudora Nursing Center.He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Douglas County, the son of Robert and Dora Lucas Randel. He graduated from Baldwin High School and attended Baker University. He later attended Floral Design School in 1950.Mr. Randel served in the Kansas State National Guard during World War II and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 with the 9th Division in Germany. He was employed at Hercules Ammunition Plant in Sunflower from 1951 to 1955. He opened Baldwin Floral in September 1950. He worked at Owens Flower Shop, which he owned from 1973 to 2002. He was on the board of directors for the Kansas State Floral Assn., where he served as vice president and president. He was a member to the American Academy of Florists and was vice chairman and chairman of FTD District 8-B. He was a charter member of Lawrence Cosmopolitan Club, Kansas Chamber of Commerce and an honorary member of Kansas Affiliated Floral Artist.Mr. Randel married Carol Joan Deay on June 8, 1949. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, Greg, Eudora, Mike, Lake Waukomis, Mo., and Rod and Mark, both of Lenexa; a sister, Ruth Hird, Baldwin; and seven grandchildren.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday before the services at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
