Raymond M. Wallace

Graveside services for Raymond M. Wallace, 83, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901 of Ottawa.Mr. Wallace died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Center in Lawrence.He was born April 19, 1922, in Ottawa, the son of Willard and Madge Roberts Wallace. He attended Ottawa schools. He had lived in Shawnee for 20 years before moving to Lawrence in 1983.Mr. Wallace served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic in the early 1940s in North Africa and Europe during World War II. He worked as a railroad dispatcher out of Topeka and Kansas City, Kan., for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 in Lawrence and American Legion Post 327 in Shawnee.He married Wilma Duschesne on Oct. 5, 1946, in Ottawa. She died in November 1991. He married Lois Bushnell on April 16, 1994. They divorced.Survivors include a stepson, Dave Bushnell, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Beverly Bolton, Lawrence; and three sisters, Nadine Reed, Spring Hill, Evelyn Bledsoe, Ottawa, and Lois Roberts, Kileen, Texas.Friends may call after noon on Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday before the services.E-mail condolences may be sent to dengelmortuary@sbcglobal.net.
