Allen E. Hawley

Services for Allen E. Hawley, 90, Ottawa, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery at a later date.Mr. Hawley died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa.He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Vicar Switch, Va., the son of James A. and Hester Ann Crisman Hawley. He graduated from Rhiner High School in Rhiner, Va. He lived in Virginia from 1916 until he moved to Ottawa in 1933. He moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1975 and returned to Ottawa in 2000. Mr. Hawley owned and operated Al’s Garage in Ottawa for 30 years. He also worked for 10 years at the St. Petersburg Times in Florida and retired Feb. 28, 1993. He was a member of Mount Tabor Methodist Church in Christiansburg, Va.He married Doris D. Travis on June 30, 1937, in Lyndon. She died in February 1972. He married Arvilla Maxine Gray Fivian on Jan. 2, 1973, in Ottawa. She died Oct. 12, 1998. He married Lois Barkley Houston. She survives, of the home.Survivors include two sons, Larry Dean Hawley, Ottawa, and Donald Gene Hawley, Lawrence; four stepsons, Jim Fivian, St. Petersburg, Fla., Alvin and Marion Houston, Ottawa, and Edward Lee Houston, Chicago; three stepdaughters, Nancy Matejcek, St. Petersburg, Fla., Elizabeth Joy Foushee, Ottawa, and Debbie Curtis, Chanute; four stepgrandchildren, Michelle Villars, John Fivian and Brian and Michael Matejcek; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.Mr. Hawley was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Merle Pease, Louise Coen and Gay Burgess; and a brother, Leslie Hawley.The family will receive friends after the services at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa 66067.
