Alberta “Bell” Gabriel

De Soto – Services for Alberta “Bell” Gabriel, 98, De Soto, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at De Soto Baptist Church. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery.She died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Eudora Nursing Center.She was born April 22, 1908, in Baldwin City, the daughter of George and Millie Fuhs Rohe. She graduated from Eudora High School and received her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State University. She was a resident of De Soto for 60 years.Mrs. Gabriel taught school at Evening Star and Roscoe Country schools. She was a De Soto State Bank board member for 10 years. She attended De Soto Methodist Church and was active in the Ruth’s Circle, Girl Scouts and P.T.O. She enjoyed being a great-grandma and was an avid sports fan, especially of Kansas University.She married Arthur W. Gabriel on June 4, 1937, in Olathe. He died in 1990. Survivors include a son, Arlen Gabriel, Eudora; a daughter, Belva Thrasher and husband Willie, De Soto; a brother, Russell Rohe, Baldwin City; two grandchildren, Jon Kobler, De Soto, and Kelley Chapman, Olathe; and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Jacob Chapman.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Eudora Chapel.
