Ray Minor

Services for Ray Minor, 50, Pittsburg, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow in Edgmand Cemetery in Cherokee County.Mr. Minor died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.He was born July 14, 1956, in Columbus, the son of Oliver R. Sr. and Dorothy R. Kretchet Minor. He grew up in Columbus and Pittsburg and attended schools in Columbus, Pittsburg and Frontenac. He graduated from Frontenac High School in 1974. He attended Coffeyville Community College, where he played football. He received a bachelor’s degree in general studies and recreational therapy from Pittsburg State University.Mr. Minor worked at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center as a cottage leader and taught MRT classes at Labette Community College. He then received his nursing home administration certification and worked at Living Skills in St. Paul as activity director and later as the administrator. He also worked as a nursing home administrator in Neodesha, Wilson, Colby, Great Bend, Kensington and El Dorado before he retired in 2004 for health reasons.He married Vicki Fessenden on June 2, 1978, in Pittsburg. They divorced.Survivors include his father, Oliver R., Joplin, Mo.; a son, Christopher A., Lawrence; a daughter, Kelli Minor, Decatur, Mich.; and a sister, Kathy Hernandez, Frontenac.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or National Kidney Foundation, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
