William J. O'Connor 1921 - 2006

Mass of Christian Burial for William J. O'Connor, 84, Shawnee Mission, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.Mr. O'Connor died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, in Shawnee Mission.He was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Gardner, the son of James David and Anna McAvock O'Connor. He attended Kansas University. Mr. O'Connor enlisted in the U.S. Navy after Pearl Harbor. He was a Farmers Insurance Agent for 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Overland Park Rotary, the St. Agnes school board, and was involved with many other service organizations, including the St. Mary's soup kitchen. He was a supporter of the Diocesan Serra Club and marched with the O'Connor Family Float in the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade for 27 years. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the activities of his children and grandchildren.He married Katherine Maurine Braun on Dec. 29, 1945, in Edgerton. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, William J., Kansas City, Mo.; seven daughters, Kathy Bruner and husband Steve, Lawrence, Mary Dailey and husband Tom, Leawood, Sherri Sobek and husband Jim, Austin, Texas, Sheila Sigmon and husband Gerry of Asheville, N.C., Ann Waters and husband Bill, Kansas City, Mo., Kelly Specht and husband Bob, Overland Park, and Patricia Orth and husband Jim, Prairie Village; a sister, Rose Wise, Overland Park; a brother, Jack J., Gardner; 16 grandchildren, Maggie, Jenny, Amy, Katie, Brian, Daniel, Megan, Carl, Brendan, Maureen, Connor, A.J., Ryan, Abbie, Will and Sean; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Trey; and many nieces and nephews.His parents, James and Anna, died earlier, and six sisters, Nellie, Anna, Mary, Catherine, Margaret and Teresa, died earlier, and two brothers, James and Donald, died earlier.The family will receive friends after a Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.The family suggests memorials to St. Agnes Catholic Church and Bishop Miege High School, sent in care of McGilley Hoage Funeral Home, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park 66204.
