Esther Marie Cowden 1909 - 2006 Lawrence
Graveside services for Esther Marie Cowden, 97, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hope Cemetery in Pleasant Hope, Mo.Mrs. Cowden died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.She was born May 4, 1909, in Pleasant Hope, the daughter of Marion Walter and Clara Luzetta Williams Dodd.Mrs. Cowden earned a teaching certificate from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. She was a homemaker and worked as a sales clerk at many stores in Lawrence.She was a member of the Church of God in Lawrence.She married Roy "Max" Cowden on May 2, 1931, in Ozark, Mo. He died April 5, 1995. Two sons, Ronnie Max Cowden and Danny Lee Cowden, also died earlier.Survivors include two sons, Bill Cowden, Mission, and Dave Cowden, Lawrence; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
