Charles Morrill Judson 1919 - 2006 Lawrence
A memorial gathering for Charles Morrill Judson, 86, Lawrence, will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Kansas University Structural Biology Center.Mr. Judson died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.He was born July 2, 1919, in Washington, D.C., the son of Lewis V. and Charlotte M. Morrill Judson. He graduated from Swarthmore College with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1940. He received a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1947.Mr. Judson was head of the mass spectrometry department at KU from 1980 to 1989. He previously worked for the Manhattan Project from 1942 to 1945 in New York, American Cyanamid in Greenwich, Conn., and Consolidated Electrodynamics Corp. in Monrovia, Calif. His work documenting the history of commercial mass spectrometry in the U.S. has been archived by the Chemical Heritage Foundation. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, American Chemical Society and numerous scientific organizations.Survivors include two daughters, Molly Judson, Barcelona, Spain, and Ellen M.
