Gerald “Ted” Martin

Services for Gerald “Ted” Martin, 82, Meriden, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel. Burial with military honors will be at Ozawkie Cemetery.Mr. Martin died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.He was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Winchester, the son of Roy and Grace E. Davis Martin. He moved from Topeka to Meriden in 1959.Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He served with Company G in the 19th infantry. He received the Purple Heart and was discharged July 17, 1951. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka for 34 years and retired in 1985. He was a member of Meriden United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 225 in Ozawkie and Grahem-Herbers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3084 in Valley Falls and an associate member of Meriden VFW Post 10815.He married Doris R. Brown on April 2, 1947, in Oskaloosa. She died Sept. 30, 2002.Survivors include two sons, Larry D., Valley Falls, and Keith G., Topeka; a sister, Betty Palmer, Topeka; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.The family suggests memorials to the Meriden VFW Post 10815, sent in care of Barnett-Chapel Oaks Chapel, P.O.
