Edwin R. Stellmacher

Services for Edwin R. Stellmacher, 88, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Cremation will follow, and the inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Hill Mausoleum in Dallas.Mr. Stellmacher died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.Mr. Stellmacher was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Fond du Lac, Wis., the son of Edwin A. and Ora Atwood Stellmacher. He attended schools in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering.He worked for five years for the DuPont Co., where he manufactured military explosives during the World War II era. He worked for the FMC Corp. in Cartaret, N.J.; Lawrence; New York City; Middleport, N.Y.; Philadelphia; and Wyoming, Ill. He retired from the FMC Corp. after 35 years of service in 1980. After he retired, he worked part-time at Capitol Federal Savings and Loan in Lawrence from 1987 to 1993. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church.He married Dorothy Humphrey on April 17, 1943, in Memphis, Tenn. She died in 1993. He married Hazel Stanley on Feb. 15, 1998. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, James, and wife Elizabeth, Newport News, Va.; three stepdaughters, Andrea Corbin, Mission, and Virginia Minnis and Marcella Larrabee, both of Lawrence; three grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a stepgreat-grandchild.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the services at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the National Parkinson Foundation or Plymouth Congregational Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
