Alicemary Volek

Private graveside services are planned for Alicemary Volek, 92, Lawrence.Mrs. Volek died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.She was born May 25, 1913, in Coffeyville, the daughter of Frank W. and Edna Zoe Moberly Dickson.She attended Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College in 1935 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She lived in the Kansas City area for more than 50 years.Mrs. Volek was an executive with the Camp Fire Girls for seven years. She worked at Trans World Airlines from 1942 until 1947 and was part of its first class of non-nurse hostesses. She was a hostess trainer and chief hostess and set up a hostess school for TWA in Switzerland.She married Frank Joseph Volek in 1947. He died earlier.Survivors include two sons, Stephen F. Volek, Billings, Mont., and Thomas W. Volek, Lawrence; a daughter, Susan M. Volek, Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Camp Fire U.S.A., sent in care of Camp Fire U.S.A. Heartland Council, 7930 State Line Road, Suite 100, Prairie Village 66208.Lawrence Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
