John Ramey Morton

Wichita – Memorial services for John Ramey Morton, 87, Wichita, will be at 11 a.m. today at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Wichita. Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.Mr. Morton died Friday, April 21, 2006.He was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Protection, the son of John Raleigh and Laura Barnes Morton.Mr. Morton graduated from Protection High School and the University of Wichita, where he played varsity football. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He taught and coached in Cedar Vale and Atlanta, Kan., then moved with his family to Wichita where he worked for Boeing and the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services until he retired.He married Bette Jean Wallace on May 6, 1943. She died earlier.Survivors include four sons, John, North Newton, Tom and Gerry, both of Wichita, and Stan, Lawrence; three sisters, Clara Ernst and Loma Harmon, both of Dodge City, and Rohena French, Enid, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the John Ramey Morton Memorial, sent in care of the WSU Foundation, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, Kan., 67260-0002.Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
