Viola V. Culbertson

Baldwin – Mass of Christian Burial for Viola V. Culbertson Shay, 76, Baldwin, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Baldwin. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Baldwin.Mrs. Shay died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born May 11, 1929, in Iola, the daughter of Harry and Lucy Drake Culbertson. She grew up and attended schools in Iola and Gas City.Mrs. Shay worked at Hercules Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto and at Ford’s IGA in Baldwin. She later worked at Baker University until she retired in 2001. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church since 1957.She married Donald Shay on April 8, 1952, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Norman E. Shay, Overland Park, and Gregory A. Shay, Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Karen E. Shay, Baldwin, Valerie L. Worley, Baldwin, and Patricia D. Shay, Baldwin; a sister, Hazel Harrison, Iola; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.A son, Donald P. Shay, died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church following a rosary at 6 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. and Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
