Robert Livingston

Services for Robert Livingston, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Military graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Colony Cemetery in Colony.Mr. Livingston died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his home.He was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Colony, the son of Howard R. and Imogene J. Smith Livingston. Mr. Livingston graduated from Colony High School in 1943 and from Ottawa University. He served in the U.S. Army in the 187th Glider Regiment during World War II. He moved to Lawrence in 1951. He worked for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, Soil Conservation Service, Kansas City Power and Light, and Kansas University Building and Grounds.Mr. Livingston was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, National Arbor Day Foundation, Lawrence Gem and Mineral Club, and Alcoholics Anonymous.He married Barbara J. Newton in April 1952 in Ottawa. They later divorced.Survivors include a daughter, Gaye A. Bryant, Branson, Mo.; three sons, Bruce D. and Russell R., both of Lawrence, and Jay, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Frank, St. Louis, James, Denison, Texas, and Phillip, Bartlesville, Okla.; and five grandchildren.The family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.They suggest memorials in his name to the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s forestry division or the KU forestry department, sent in care of the mortuary.
