Edgar Bauer Grass Jr.

Services for Edgar Bauer “Ed” Grass Jr., 83, Russell, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Russell.Mr. Grass died Monday, April 3, 2006, in Lawrence.He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Hays, the son of Edgar Bauer and Vivian Gadd Grass. He attended school in Hays and received a chemistry degree from Fort Hays State College.Mr. Grass served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He continued to served in the U.S. Army National Guard and retired as a major with the Hays National Guard Unit. He operated the Mid-Continent Coin and Stamp Store. He later worked for Social Rehabilitation Services in Russell and retired in 1989. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks Lodge in Russell and Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity in Hays. He attended St. Marys Catholic Church.He married Ellen Irene Witt on June 10, 1952, in Russell. She died Sept. 9, 2004.Survivors include two sons, Edgar B. III, Jamison, Pa., Eric B., Southlake, Texas; a daughter, Ellen D. Willets, Lawrence; a brother, Robert, Broomfield, Colo.; a sister, Nancy Grass, Sandy, Utah; and eight grandchildren.Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, sent in care of the mortuary, 610 N.
