Wendell John Thomas

Services for Wendell John Thomas, 78, Stafford, were Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Stafford. Burial was in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Hutchinson.Mr. Thomas died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Leisure Homestead in Stafford.He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Woodward, Okla., the son of William S. and Ruby Mabell Cavin Thomas. He was a longtime resident of Hutchinson before he moved to Stafford in 1997.Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 385th Infantry and earned a Bronze Star. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the National Rural Letter Carriers Assn.He married Doris Babcock on May 1, 1947, in Hutchinson. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Randy, Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Cheryl Thomas, Lawrence, and Jona Thomas, Hutchinson; a brother, Glen, Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Norma Parks, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.A daughter, Denise Farris, died earlier.The family suggests memorials to the Denise Farris Education Scholarship, First Baptist Church or Stafford Senior Center, sent in care of Minnis Chapel, 125 N.
