Greever P. Allan 1910 - 2005 Valley Falls

Services for Greever P. Allan, 94, Valley Falls, will be at Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in Valley Falls Cemetery.Mr. Allan died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at his home.He was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Tonganoxie, the son of William C. and Sarah Edna Lee Greever Allan. He graduated from Tonganoxie High School and Kansas University. He also received a law degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.Mr. Allan served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain during World War II. He was a postal officer at Air Transport Command Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He was also director of the International Postal Service in Washington, D.C., from 1948 to 1969. He was a post office inspector in Batesville, Ark., and Waterloo, Iowa. He was a postmaster in Tonganoxie and worked for the Kansas State Highway Commission. He served on the board of directors and was vice president of Standard Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Lawrence and was a consulting director for State Mutual Insurance Co. in Rome, Ga.He was a member of Valley Falls United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees for 14 years. He was president of the Valley Falls Medical Arts Building Corp. He was a member and past president of Valley Falls Rotary Club, director of Valley Falls Historical Society and served on the Valley Falls City Council. He was a member of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 225. He was a life member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Retired Postal Inspectors and Retired Postmasters.He married Lora Fernanda "Nancy" Triggs on Sept. 4, 1937, in Olathe. She died Dec. 30, 2003.Survivors include three nieces, Martha Rose, Lawrence, Sara Dunne, Wichita, and Sarah Kepler, St. Joseph, Mo.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Hospice, the church or Valley Falls Historical Society, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
