Robert Charles “Bob” Kollin

Services for Robert Charles “Bob” Kollin, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Frieden United Church of Christ Cemetery near Bern.Mr. Kollin died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Fred and Anna Fryhoff Kollin. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and attended Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth, Texas. He moved from Arlington, Texas, to Lawrence in 1983.Mr. Kollin served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a production lead man for Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie, Texas, for 30 years and retired on April 1, 1977. He was a member of American Legion Dorsey Liberty Post No. 14 in Lawrence, O.U.R.S. Dance Club, Douglas County Senior Citizen Group, Skipper of the Sea Explorers, a branch of the Boy Scouts of America, from 1957 to 1961 in Arlington, First Presbyterian Church in Arlington and West Side Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.He married Erma Korber on Aug. 2, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas. She died earlier.A twin brother, Bill, died May 31, 1986.Survivors include a son, Scott, Lawrence; a foster daughter, Melody Cain, Tucson, Ariz.; and a foster granddaughter.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army, sent in care of the mortuary.
