Russell W. Getter 1935 - 2005 Lawrence
Funeral services for Russell W. Getter, 69, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, Wis. Burial will be in Viroqua Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel.Mr. Getter died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.He was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Vernon County, Wis., the son of Wallace and Mildred Jennings Getter.Mr. Getter graduated in 1953 from Viroqua High School in Viroqua, Wis. He farmed in Vernon County and served in the Wisconsin National Guard for eight years.He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse in 1967 and earned master's and doctoral degrees in political science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 1971.Mr. Getter was an associate professor of political science at Kansas University from 1971 until his retirement in 1997. He served as director of Capitol Complex Center and in the Division of Information Systems for the State of Kansas in Topeka.He married Mary Jean Mundsack on Dec. 18, 1954, in Vernon County, Wis. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Scott, Ottawa, and Robert, Corona Del Mar, Calif.; four daughters, Barbara Getter, Denver, Roxanne Brendel, Louisville, Ky., Denise Berkley, Lawrence, and Laurie Michels, Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Evlynne Olson, LaCrosse, Wis., Eloise Eide, Viroqua, Wis., and Sharon Staniforth, Oregon, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.Visitation in Wisconsin will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation in Lawrence will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel before the memorial service.The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation or to Habitat for Humanity, in care of Thorson Funeral Home, 856 Rush Ave., Viroqua, Wis. 54665, or Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
