Warren Ray Tevis

Services for Warren Ray Tevis, 86, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southeast of Topeka.Mr. Tevis died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Brewster Place in Topeka.He was born June 30, 1919, in Berryton, the son of Walter Burton and Bessie Bell Baber Tevis. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1938. He was a lifelong resident of Topeka.Mr. Tevis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a carpenter and superintendent for Jayhawk Construction Co. for more than 35 years. He was a member of Seabrook Congregational United Church of Christ, where he served in many capacities. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the board at Brewster Place.He married Eura Murrel Woodard on Aug. 10, 1940, in Ellensburg, Wash. She died Oct. 14, 1986.A granddaughter died Sept. 3, 2002.Survivors include two sons, Phil, Berryton, and Randall, Topeka; two daughters, Karen Elliott, Montrose, Colo. and Connie Hadl, Lawrence; a sister, Irene Rowe Lewis, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Paul, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the chapel, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to First Congregational Church, 1701 S.W.
