A memorial service for Eugene "Gene" George Sullivan, 76, Lawrence, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Community Bible Church. The family also is planning a memorial service in mid-October in Minnesota.Mr. Sullivan died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at his home.He was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Chicago, and he grew up in Dubuque, Iowa.Mr. Sullivan served several years in the active military, then served 25 years in the Marine Reserve and rose to the rank of colonel.He also taught high school English for 30 years in Robbinsdale, Minn.He married Nellie Earman in 1956. She died in 1997.Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Barfield, Lawrence, and Becky Spengler, Colorado Springs; a son, Gene Sullivan, Minneapolis; and seven grandchildren.
