LeRoy Berndt 1934 - 2005 Chase
Private family services for LeRoy "Nick" Berndt, 70, Topeka, will be at a later date in Chase.Mr. Berndt died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, in Topeka, after complications from a stroke.He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Lyons, the son of Lewis and Gladys Dellinger Berndt. He graduated from Lyons High School and Kansas University.Mr. Berndt worked as an accountant for Kansas Color Press and Hydra Tool, then was self-employed. He coached American Legion and Little League baseball and Sunrise Optimist Basketball. He was a member of the KU Alumni Association and Luncheon Optimists.He married Anna Maye Streeter on Sept. 1, 1960. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Mike, Baldwin, and Richard and Bill, both of Topeka; a daughter, Linda Laird, Topeka; a brother, Dan, Grand Junction, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka.The family suggests memorials to the LeRoy "Nick" Berndt Memorial Fund, 2036 N.
