Hugo Joseph Meyers

Masses for Hugo Joseph Meyers, 96, Kansas City, Mo., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cure of Ars Church in Leawood and at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hoisington. Burial will follow in Great Bend.Mr. Meyers died Aug. 30, 2005, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, Mo.He was born Dec. 14, 1908, in St. Leo, the son of Henry Joseph and Katie Albers Meyers. He graduated from Meade High School in 1927. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1997 and Kingswood Senior Living Community in 1998.Mr. Meyers served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and was stationed in Italy. He owned and operated three Conoco Service Stations in Dodge City from 1938 to 1942. He worked for Cessna in Topeka and later established a Western Auto Associate Store in Hoisington from 1948 to 1997. He was a 78-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce, Nocturnal Adoration Society, Apostolate of Prayer, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pitch Club and the Cheyenne Twisters and Hoisington Swinging Stars square dance clubs.He married Catherine Irene Robbins on Dec. 26, 1935, in Dodge City. She died Feb. 24, 1994.A daughter, Ruth Ann Meyers, also died earlier.Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Meyers, Lawrence; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Hoisington. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s Funeral Chapel in Overland Park and Friday in Hoisington.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
