Lawrence E. “Larry” Colson

Services for Lawrence E. “Larry” Colson, 70, Baldwin, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Inurnment will follow in Dunlap Cemetery in Rose Hill.Mr. Colson died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at his home.He was born June 18, 1935, in Kiowa, the son of William and Maude Vannaman Colson. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1953. He received an associate’s degree from Pratt Junior College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Western University in Alva, Okla., in 1958. He moved to Baldwin in 1968.Mr. Colson taught school in Selden for four years and in Deerfield for six years. He taught biological science for 18 years in Baldwin, where he coached basketball, football, track, tennis and golf. He attended First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. He was a former member of the Baldwin City Lions Club and Baldwin City U.S.D. 348 Teachers Assn. He helped develop the Baldwin High School girls tennis program and was inducted into the Kansas Coaches Tennis Hall of Fame in February 2005.He married Pamela Grimm on Aug. 4, 1968, in Augusta. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a brother, Donald Colson, Ponca City, Okla.; and four sisters, Irene Frederick, Medicine Lodge, La Ferne Anderson, Kiowa, La Verne Lunsford, Medicine Lodge, and Mary Alice Gillum, Smolan.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour Thursday at the church.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
