Marguerite May Pettengill 1913 - 2005
Memorial services for Marguerite May Pettengill, 92, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturdayat Westside Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mrs. Pettengill died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor.She was born Aug. 15, 1913, the daughter of Herbert and Clara May Green Nunemaker in rural Leavenworth County. She was a 1931 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence.Mrs. Pettengill was a bookkeeper for Pettengill Refrigeration and had clerked at Gobles Grocery Store. She also taught school in Douglas County and in surrounding rural areas.She was a member of Westside Presbyterian Church, Dorcas Circle and Church Women United. She was a volunteer at Lawrence Interdenominational Nutritional Kitchen and at Headstart. She had been a nursery attendant for the church for many years.She married Nathan Walter Pettengill on June 5, 1937, in Leavenworth County. He died earlier.Survivors include a son, Glenn Pettengill, Grand Haven, Mich.; three daughters, Patricia Neil, Mount Shasta, Calif., Sharon Abram, McLouth, and Denise Pettengill, Lawrence; a brother, Herbert Nunemaker, Topeka; a sister, Dorothy Norris, Independence, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.The family suggests memorials to the Resident Council Fund for Employee Appreciation at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, Westside Presbyterian Church or Hospice Care of Douglas County, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.E-mail condolences can be sent to <a href="mailto:info@warrenmcelwain.com">info@warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Pettengill.
