George Edouard Walrafen

Services for George Edouard Walrafen, 76, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka. Mr. Walrafen died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, as a result of injuries from an accident in Gaithersburg, Md.He was born May 18, 1929, in Topeka, the son of George L. and Henria Saut Walrafen. He graduated from Topeka High School, where he was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Kansas University and a Master of Science and doctorate in chemistry from the University of Chicago.Mr. Walrafen served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the chemical physics department of Bell Labs from 1972 to 1973 and was briefly a professor of physical chemistry at the University of Marburg in Germany from 1972 to 1973. He was a graduate professor of chemistry at Howard University from 1975 to 2001 and an adjunct professor, emeritus, at Kansas University since 2001. He published more than 130 scientific papers and held two U.S. patents.He married Linda Glasser.
