Carl H. Lande 1924 - 2005 Lawrence
Services for Carl H. Lande, 81, Lawrence, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Spencer Museum of Art.Mr. Lande died Sunday, May 22, 2005, in Lawrence.He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Tubingen, Germany, the son of Alfred and Elizabeth Grunewald Lande. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University and a doctorate from Harvard University, where he was awarded the Chase Prize for the finest dissertation on a subject relating to the promotion of world peace.Mr. Lande was professor emeritus of political science and East Asian studies at Kansas University from 1960 to 1962 and from 1968 until he retired in 2000. He also taught at Yale University; the Ateneo de Manila, in the Philippines; Monash University in Melbourne, Australia; and Sheffield City Polytechnic in Sheffield, England.Survivors include his wife, Nobleza Asuncion Lande; two sons, James, Washington, D.C., and Charles, Chicago; a brother, Arnold Lande; and a granddaughter.The family suggests memorials to the International Rescue Committee or Covenant House, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to <a href="mailto:info@warrenmcelwain.com">info@warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Lande.
