Celestia M. Howard

Funeral services for Celestia M. Howard, 82, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Howard died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Parkmoor I.H.S. in Colorado Springs, Colo.She was born June 30, 1923, in Stull, the daughter of William and Ina Clayborn Kizer.Mrs. Howard attended rural grade school and graduated from Deer Creek School in Stull. She also attended Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence. During World War II, she worked at the Hercules Powder Plant in De Soto. She lived most of her life in Lawrence.She taught Sunday school and was a junior church leader at the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence and also was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Topeka.She married Alonzo Howard. Survivors include two sons, Steven Howard, Fresno, Calif., and Jesse Pierre Howard, Aurora, Colo.; three daughters, Earlene Pone, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alonda Martin and Rene Candies, both of Denver; four sisters, Maxine Newman and Bertha Nelson, both of Lawrence, and Ruby Moore and Wilma Kizer, both of Topeka; an aunt, Mildred Wilkes, Ottawa; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.Online condolences may be sent to www.rumsey-yost.com.
