Glenna Davis Herd

Services for Glenna Davis Herd, 73, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.Mrs. Herd died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park.She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Garden City, the daughter of Cecil D. and Emma Baker Davis. She graduated from Sublette High School and attended Kansas University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa. She received a music degree from Southwestern College. She also lived in Coldwater, Clara County, Calif., Maryland, Tucson, Ariz., and Lawrence.Mrs. Herd was a public school teacher and sold real estate. She sang in many church choirs and competed for three years in a registered Sweet Adeline’s quartet. She was a minister to older adults with First United Methodist Church, where she co-founded and was managing director of the Interfaith Caring Neighbors for two years. She organized the Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club, later the Kaw Valley Bridge Club, in 1993 and recently became a life master in bridge.She married Eldon Herd on July 10, 1955, in Sublette. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include five sons, Kevin Herd, Brentwood, Calif., Marston Herd, Los Angeles, Drew Herd, San Jose, Calif., and James and Sean Herd, both of Lawrence; and six grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Senior Services, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to , subject: Herd.
