Dean W. Rabe 1916 - 2005 Topeka
Services for Dean W. Rabe, 89, Lenexa, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Topeka. Inurnment will be private.Mr. Rabe died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at his home.He was born June 18, 1916, in Topeka, the son of Amos H. and Mamie Thorne Rabe. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. He moved to Lawrence in 1994.Mr. Rabe served as a pilot instructor with the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He was founder of Topeka Wholesale Drug Co., which later became Drug Distributors. He later owned and operated Sports Center family entertainment center in Topeka. He retired in 1994.He married Juanita Dick on Sept. 17, 1941, in Topeka. They divorced. He married Mahala Honeyfield on Dec. 10, 1961, in Topeka. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Kermit, Leawood, and Terry, Olathe; three daughters, Pris Keefer, Pawleys Island, S.C., Mary Haines, Cincinnati, and Sharyl Swanson, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka.The family suggests memorials to Habitat for Humanity, 1000 S.E. Hancock, Topeka 66607 or the Lunch Bunch at First United Methodist Church, 600 S.W.
