James D. Henry 1948 - 2005 San Angelo, Texas
Graveside services with military honors for James D. Henry, 57, San Angelo, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Mr. Henry died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. He was born March 29, 1948, in Cookeville, Tenn., the son of Lloyd and Zelda Lack Henry.Mr. Henry served in the U.S. Army for 24 years and participated in three tours of Vietnam. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons and six Army Good Conduct Medals. He retired as a first sergeant in 1984.He then worked as a civil servant for 10 years, retiring in 1994.Survivors include a son, James J., Tennessee; two daughters, Amanda Henry, Baldwin, and Kimberly Henry, Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
