Alvin L. Decker 1926 - 2005 McLouth
Graveside services for Alvin L. Decker, 78, McLouth, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fowler Cemetery, northeast of McLouth.Mr. Decker died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Center in Topeka.He was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Perry, the son of Charles Abner and Martha Christina Sweeney Decker. He was a graduate of Perry High School and had attended Kansas University.He had lived in rural McLouth for many years.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946.Mr. Decker worked as an electrician and electrical supervisor for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka for 22 years.He was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church and the Oskaloosa Masonic Lodge No. 14, A.F. & A.M. He married Lecta G. Metzger on Dec. 24, 1946, at Ozawkie. She died Jan. 6, 2005.Survivors include a son, Ronald, Lansing; two daughters, Christine Wagner, Sycamore, Ohio, and Deborah K. Whiteside, Topeka; a sister, Edith L. Turnbough, Walnut Creek, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.The family will meet friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.The family suggests memorials to the McLouth United Methodist Church or to Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa 66066.
