Gilbert A. Diaz 1925 - 2005
Graveside services for Gilbert A. Diaz, 79, Independence, Mo., will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Cavalry Cemetery in Lawrence. Mr. Diaz died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005.He was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Justo and Rosa Arauto Diaz.Mr. Diaz worked for Fairbanks and Morse Pump Co. in Kansas City, Kan.He was a member of St. Joseph, the workers' parish, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.Mr. Diaz married Bonnie L. Diaz. She died in 1997.Survivors include five sons, Gilbert, Kansas City, Mo., Michael and David, both of Kansas City, Kan., James, Spokane, Wash., and Andrew, Lawrence; four daughters, Cynthia Tinoco, Independence, Mo., Suzanna Diaz, Lee's Summit, Mo., Kathy Smith, Lawrence, and Melissa Miles, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Charles Sr., Dominiques Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Anna Villanueva, Independence, Mo., and Ester Valdivia, Kansas City, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at New Salem Funeral Home, 1823 Blue Mills Road in Independence, Mo., with a rosary said at 7 p.m.
